Its been awhile but I've finally got around to posting an update! I've been working on a few new ideas recently, this following entry is of a tailoring project I've been working on since uni. I have designs ready and some patterns cut I just now need to get some fabric sourcing and start making! I've been a bit neglectful of my blog so plan to keep a little more up to date now things are moving along! There is another project I've been working on more recently and I will upload images and concepts following this post so keep your eyes out!
The first collection I have been working on is a mini collection of tailored coats and jackets. I have taken design concepts from previous tailoring projects that I have done and re designed them using traditional tailoring mixed with some Japanese style pattern cutting. These designs are based on Form, Line and Space.
I wanted to create structured outerwear with minimal finishing's and panels, creating a block, linear look.
My reseach began with simple, minimal images where I have found inspiration for shape, silhouette and colour. The above image is one of my concept boards for this project with silhouette ideas....
These two images are photographic manilpuations to expresses the ideas of form, line and shape...
I like the new lighter colour ideas in these boards and want to combine more of a pastel softer collection with dense dark highlights.
The following images are of the technical flats of my designs. I've been working a lot on photoshop creating new and conceptual ways of demonstrating the collection in an artistic and illustarative way using the minimal images that have inspired the collection.
Design 2:
This is cap sleeved but I think I might make it long sleeved with cap sleeve layers? The collar is continuous down the line of the body and the waist is shaped to contrast with the linear front. I have designed this with an angular hem.
Design 3:
I think this is my personal favourite! I have done cap sleeves again as a highlight detail. This coat is also shaped to the waist slightly with origami/ triangular pockets. There is no collar but the panels on the sides are to represent a kind of back to front collar, they are coming from the side rather than the neck.
Design 4:
I have actually made this coat in my second year. I have tweaked the design a little bit to update it. The long, angular front panels are layered with contrasting panels from the shoulder. The original coat had a short back that ended at the waist however the new design will be long at the back to meet the corners of the front and has a fold/ pleat down the centre of the back.
I'm in the process of pattern cutting at the moment and will start construction as soon as I have sourced some fabrics. I'm looking for rigid but pliable fabrics and I think I might soften the colours a little bit making the darker colours a highlight.
I'll keep you posted on the progress and look out for my next post with new designs from my other project of a more commercial, ready to wear mini collection!!
